Requirements

Before you begin following this guide, ensure you have completed the following:

  1. Installed the application; please refer to the installation guide for the required steps.
  2. Allowed the Kap application to record your screen; please review the directions set out within the screen recording access guide.

Open Kap from your Applications folder. If you will use this application frequently, right-click on the icon in the dock, choose options, and then select the keep in dock option.

How to Complete a Recording in Six Easy Steps

Step 1

Open the Kap application. This action will cause the screen to darken and will display the toolbar.

Step 2

The recording area needs to be defined. This operation can be done in one of three ways, as listed below.

  1. Cropped capture
  2. Application window capture
  3. Full-screen capture

Click the record button to begin recording.

Click the stop button in the menu bar to end the session.

Step 4 - Stop recording icon in the menu bar ends the session.

Step 5

Once the recording has ended, an editor window will display.

Step 6

Set size parameters, frames per second, file format, and export location. Click Convert to save the recording once you have selected all other desired parameters. You can also customize the file’s name, tags, and destination.

Preferences and Plugins

Kap offers the ability to modify its preferences and enable plugins to customize the app to each user’s needs. The keyboard shortcut to the app’s preferences is ⌘ ,. If you would like more information, check out the preferences and plugins guide.
